The wedding cake is traditionally cut into small slices and packaged into small thank you bags/boxes for your guests to take home. Alternatively you can serve your cake as your dessert. This option may cost extra for the larger cake; the cost is offset by the reduction of your catering cost as it will replace your dessert. You may also wish to keep the top layer of your cake for your first anniversary or the birth of your first child.
